Isn't there likely to also be a Goldilocks + Boiling Frog effect? A blog reader is more likely to identify with and prefer a blog posting that is "just right" rather than distant from their political beliefs. Over time, they are likely if they remain a regular reader to continue to identify even should the blog move away from their original position.

Slightly scary, actually. Just like radicalisation employed by political and terrorist groups.

These same pessimistic consumers wouldn't also be voting in a Congressional election later this year, would they?

Not all moves, bold or otherwise will be rewarded.

Bold moves might garner greater reward for no other reason than that the pool of people willing to make them is smaller, particularly in the fearful climate following a recession.

But some bold moves will still fail. Perhaps it's more like "Now is the time of the cycle when bold moves stand an increased chance of great reward".

Boldness generally might be a cause of the strong recoveries we usually see after downturns. Despite many more people than at other times suffering some increased timidity as their memories of the emotionally-charged events fade, historically we've still seen strong recoveries after recessions.

It might be that the economic impact of positive bold moves is disproportionally greater than their number.

Anyway, I'm off to make a bold(ish) move or two.

First of all - you've never told me that story! It sounds amusing and I'd like to hear it! Unless it's just a saying I've never heard before, in which case, don't elaborate.

Secondly - I agree, but for different reasons. The attacks make him look petty. Saying out loud what everyone knows doesn't always work in your favor. Also, if Bush had attacked CNN this way I would've jumped up and down, screaming 'FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS!' at the top of my lungs and signing petitions.
